DHL/EKAS Announces Expansion and Signs 10-Year Lease on New Premises at Westpark Shannon

DHL/ EKAS (Deutsche Post international BV) has agreed a substantial expansion of its business base at Westpark Shannon, moving into a new 5,000 sq.ft. facility, tailored to meet its specific needs with a fit-out value of €500,000.   The move has been prompted by recent and planned staff expansion.

The new space incorporates an open-plan 100-desk facility, meeting rooms, a training room and support facilities.

Since 2012, DHL EKAS jointly leased offices with DHL Global Forwarding, in Building 4,000, Westpark, but due to significant growth it now requires dedicated space to accommodate recent and planned staff expansion.

DHL/ EKAS has signed a 10-year lease with Westpark Shannon.  Brian O’Connell, CEO, Westpark Shannon said, “The fact that the management team at DHL/EKAS has been very satisfied with its experience in Westpark to date, made the move within the campus an obvious choice, especially as we were able to deliver a high quality, turn-key solution.”

DHL/ EKAS staff will have access to a new, purpose-built café, an extension of Sage restaurant, located in the campus headquarters. They will also enjoy access to on-site car parking, use of a large landscaped park, running tracks, walking trails amongst other amenities.

Martin O’Mara, head of EKAS European Key Account Support said, “We originally chose to locate to Westpark three years ago for many reasons, but mainly because the buildings, surroundings and amenities are so attractive.  It’s a fabulous place to work and that’s a very important factor because it helps us not only attract but also to retain talent.”

He said, “We have experienced a very low staff churn rate to date, which is in contrast to the high rate of attrition generally experienced in call centres. “

DHL/EKAS quickly outgrew its previous office. ‘We initially had 30 people employed, and to accommodate growth we had to rent additional space on the same floor. However, further growth this year meant we needed to find a single space to accommodate all of our workers, while also allowing for extra growth.”

The new 5,000 sq. ft. office space is home to the DHL/EKAS European Key Account Support team. “65 agents moved into the new offices last week. Their role is to provide excellent customer service to DHL’s elite customers. Between them they speak 18 languages, giving the team the ability to service the whole of Europe from our base in Westpark, Shannon,” said O’Mara.

The new space is designed to accommodate up to 88 people and O’Mara confidently expects the additional desks to be filled before the New Year.
